Hiroo Uchida is currently the Professor/Chairman of the Department of Pediatric Surgery at Nagoya University Graduate School of Medicine. Nagoya, Japan. He is also the visiting Professor of the Department of Pediatric Surgery, Graduate School of Medicine, The University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, the University of Tokyo. His pediatric surgical training was mainly at Saitama Children’s Medical Center.
He has written over 80 peer-reviewed articles. He has particular interest in minimally invasive surgery, hepatobiliary surgery, reduced-port surgery, and new medical equipment research. He developed a new umbilical incision technique, Benz incision, which allows for enlargement of the orifice of the abdominal opening with preservation of the natural umbilical profile. He also developed and established Single Incision Laparoscopic Percutaneous Extraperitoneal Closure (SILPEC) for inguinal hernia repair. Now, his team has committed to invent new medical instruments with biodegradable metal.
