Professor Andrew Day trained in paediatrics in Christchurch NZ and undertook further subspecialty training in Paediatric Gastroenterology in Toronto, Canada. After completing clinical and research training in Canada, Professor Day took up a clinical academic position at University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. He returned to NZ in 2009 and was appointed as Head of Department in 2010. More recently in 2017, he was awarded a Research Gold Medal from the University of Otago and appointed as Cure Kids Chair of Paediatric Research at University of Otago, Christchurch. Professor Day has broad clinical roles within Paediatric Gastroenterology, but his research interests focus upon inflammatory bowel disease and coeliac disease in children and adolescents.
