Dr. Wheeler served as a general pediatrician for 3 years in the U.S. Navy on the island of Guam and later at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He remained on active reserve for the Navy while a pediatric critical care medicine fellow at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, completing his fellowship training in 2003. He is currently a Professor and Associate Chair, Clinical Affairs in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He is an attending physician in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Cincinnati Children’s and was recently named the Chief of Staff in June, 2015. He is a Fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Chest Physicians, and American College of Critical Care Medicine. His clinical/research interests include the early recognition of clinical deterioration and shock, rapid response systems, and high reliability organization (HRO) theory.
