Julie Cleuziou, MD

Dr. Cleuziou is a consultant in congenital cardiac surgery at the German Heart Centre Munich. After completing medical school at the University of Aachen in Germany, she started her residency in cardiothoracic surgery at the Heart Centre Wuppertal, Germany. After one year of residency at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, UK, she joined Professor Marc de Leval in London to act as his clinical assistant for 18 months. There, Dr. Cleuziou gained insight into congenital cardiac surgery and acted as a first assistant in all congenital cardiac procedures, from neonate to adult. Joining the congenital cardiac team at the German Heart Centre Munich in 2003, she completed her training in 2008. 

She is now leading the team of congenital cardiac surgery, performing yearly more than 400 open-heart operations and 200 operations without cardiopulmonary bypass in patients with congenital heart disease, from neonate to adulthood. Dr. Cleuziou has contributed to more than 50 publications in peer-reviewed and PubMed listed journals within this team. She is member of several international professional societies. In her spare time, she spends time with her son and likes hiking and skiing.
